  AU ECOSOCC Hosts Symposium on 2025 Theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparation”February 28, 2025

  Today, the African Union ECOSOCC/Civil Society Pre-Submission Symposium on the 2025 African Union Theme of the Year—“Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparation”—was successfully conducted.

  The symposium provided a platform for stakeholders, experts, and civil society organizations to discuss reparations for African citizens and people of African descent. Participants examined historical injustices, their lasting impact, and strategies to advocate for justice and restitution.

  Key discussions focused on political and social reparations, the role of international institutions, and the need for a united approach to addressing historical wrongs. The symposium reinforced the AU’s commitment to justice, equity, and the rights of Africans and the African diaspora.

  Advancing Gender Justice and Reparations at the 41st GIMAC Pre-SummitFebruary 13, 2025

  MAU is honored to have participated in the 41st GIMAC Pre-Summit CSO Consultative Meeting held at Haile Grand Hotel. Under the Theme: “Advancing the Agenda for Justice and Reparations for African Women and Girls,” this gathering provided a crucial platform to engage in meaningful discussions on gender justice, reparations, and the economic empowerment of African women.

  The 41st GIMAC CSO Pre-Summit Meeting brought together Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs) to strategize on advancing gender mainstreaming within AU policies. These discussions reinforced the importance of collaboration between civil society and policymakers in ensuring that gender justice remains a priority on Africa’s agenda.

  A heartfelt thank you to the GIMAC Network, AU leadership, and all the organizers, speakers, and advocates who made this event possible. The fight for gender justice and reparations continues, and MAU remains committed to driving meaningful change.

  MAU Attends National Conference on Youth, Peace & SecurityNovember 4, 2022

  MAU had the chance of attending a conference on National Conference on Youth, Peace and Security hosted by the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MOWSA) and UNFPA, focusing on the role of youth in peacebuilding and security. Key speakers, including H.E Muna Ahmed (State Minister of Youth, MoWSA), emphasized the importance of involving youth in policymaking, creating job opportunities, and empowering them to participate in peace efforts. Mr. Koffi Kouname (UN Representative) highlighted youth as agents of change, aligning with UNSCR 2250, which acknowledges their role in global peace initiatives.

  Theophilus Ekpon from UNFPA gave us an overview about youth peace and security, while Abiy Hailemelekot pointed out Ethiopia’s youthful population.

  We concluded the National Conference on Youth, Peace, and Security with a panel on Ethiopia’s current and future peace and security trends. Special thanks to MoWSA and UNFPA for supporting meaningful youth participation in shaping sustainable peace policies.
